Dear Tech Bro🤎

Guys in tech gather round for a quick gist. Let's be clear, not to be stereotypical here but are you a young, affluent, and ambitious male working in the tech industry? Often casually dressed in t-shirts and hoodies, jeans or shorts, and sneakers or in comfy pants and shirts when the occassion demands. Do you enjoy the freedom of being yourself and dressing just as trendy as you feel? Even when you drive or hail a cab, your backpack or messenger bag that contains your laptop and other tech gadgets is never faraway. Your smartwatch or other wearable devices are essential parts of your sense of style. You're also part of the "but first, coffee" tribe almost always seen with a cup of coffee or a protein shake in hand as you rush to work or to your next meeting. Am I right or am I right? So this gist is specifically for you.

Dear Tech Bro, as much as we appreciate all that you do for the advancement of this space called earth, we also care just as much for your health and wellbeing even if we don't say as much, we care, especially for your mental wellness. Work-life balance is a critical issue for everyone, but it can be particularly challenging for guys in the tech industry, where long hours and high-pressure environments are the norm. Hence we have curated some tips for achieving work-life balance as a man in tech. Enjoy😉

Set boundaries
Establish clear boundaries between work and personal life. Set realistic work hours and stick to them, and communicate your availability to colleagues and managers.

Manage your workload

Prioritize your tasks and focus on the most important projects. Avoid taking on too much at once, and communicate with your team and managers if you're feeling overwhelmed. Acknowledging your strength and knowing your limits is important to avoid burnout.

Seek flexible work arrangements

Talk to your employer about flexible work arrangements, such as telecommuting or flexible hours, that could help you achieve a better work-life balance. Consider hybrid options instead of daily commute to work. If you work remotely, set your day to include outside time by jogging in the morning or taking evening walks or walk to your gym, do things to encourage contact with nature and get fresh air.

Be present

When you're not at work, be present with your family and friends. Put away your phone and other devices and focus on the people around you. Pursue activities that do not involve screen time. In your alone time, do things that support the improvement of your mental health.

Mindful Eating

Pay more attention to what you eat and how you eat it. Eating vegetables and fruits cannot be overemphasized. One way to always have fruits daily is to ensure you buy enough apples to last you at least a week every time you go grocery shopping or come across it. Bananas, Grapes, Pineapples, Cucumbers and carrots are also nice fruits that are almost always available all year round. If eating fruits aren't as convenient for you, blend or juice your fruits to have in the mornings or to replace fizzy drink options. Eat your meals mindfully too, avoid distractions.

Delegate and outsource

Don't be afraid to delegate tasks or outsource projects that are beyond your capacity or expertise. This can help you reduce your workload and free up time for other priorities. Outsourcing shouldn't be limited to work only, house chores such as laundry, cleanings as well as cooking occasionally or as you desire can all be delegated or outsourced.

Manage stress

Practice stress management techniques such as deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, or visualization. Schedule time for activities that help you relax and unwind, such as reading, listening to music, or taking a hot bath.

Prioritize self-care

Make time for self-care activities that help you manage stress and maintain your physical and mental health. This could include exercise, yoga, meditation, hobbies, or spending time with loved ones.

Get enough sleep

Getting enough sleep is as essential to your mental health and physical wellness just as much as food is to your body. Eight (8) hours of sleep is essential for adults to ensure proper physical and mental restoration, mood regulation, immune system support, and cardiovascular health.

Use your vacation time

Take advantage of your vacation time to recharge and spend time with family and friends. Unplugging from work and taking a break can help you return to work refreshed and energized.

Get support

Connect with other men in tech who may be dealing with similar work-life balance challenges. Seek support from friends, family, or a professional therapist if you're struggling with stress, burnout, or other mental health issues.
